Hi, Folks:
Right now in Montana the runoff has blown out the big rivers. But the local feeder streams around Bozeman are clear, and the fishing is outstanding. If you like fishing the smaller waters this is a good place to be.
And the runoff is heavy this year. Yup, Montana has water. So the naysayers predicting doom for the Bighorn and Missouri Rivers have got it wrong. It's just not true.
If you're planning a trip to MT, this year should be a very good year. Especially if it keeps on raining and snowing on the high peaks. Come on over this year. The water is fine.
We hiked up in the Spanish Peaks area this past weekend. Spanish Creek was crystal clear, and you could see the cutthroat in the pools. They looked hungry. And they could definitely see upstream. Spanish Creek is a feeder stream for the blue-ribbon Gallatin River, one of our local favorites.
So just remember: if the big rivers are heavy with runoff and look like chocolate milk, don't worry. Be happy. And bring your small stream rod, because you're going to be plenty busy entertaining the fish.
