For years now I've been planning a fly fishing Web directory. Everyone I work with (and fish with) is asking for it. So finally, the foundation for our fly fishing directory is now online here:

Once upon a time Virtual Flyshop seemed like the answer for many of us. But when it was engulfed by the About.com system the character of this system changed enough that a void was left online. Although there were other sites attempting to be directories for the fly fishing industry, none of them were comprehensive. Perhaps more importantly, there was no single site helping the industry as a whole make the move from offline to online advertising, enabling the industry to powerfully and cost-effectively add the Web to their marketing mix.





There was no Web 'hub', which was why it was so hard to find what you were looking for online. This problem had been talked about for years by fly fishing Web forums, discussion groups, newsletters and so forth, but no-one was doing anything about it.





That's why onFlyFishing is here now. I've developed this site a step at a time to be the Web's 1st comprehensive fly fishing directory organizing, defining and presenting the entire fly fishing industry across the globe. My goals are to increase participation in the sport of fly fishing, and help provide a real foundation for fly fishing professionals to build business online.

Today the audience of fly fishers worldwide is estimated to be 50 million strong, of which 16+ million are in North America. Many of these fly fishers are online, and their challenge has been to find what they need among the multiple thousands of fly fishing Web sites worldwide. Though online fishing directories do exist, none are comprehensive and all lack objectivity. Most compete directly within the fly fishing and destination travel industries as private retailers of products or travel services.





As a result, fly fishers have a biased and incomplete picture of available resources. And the fly fishing industry has been handicapped, unable to fully utilize the Web to build business and marketshare.

Currently 7000+ listings drawn from 42 countries are represented in over 35 distinct categories. Every day flyfishing enthusiasts and professionals from Belize to Bozeman continue to add and update listings, ensuring the directory is comprehensive, accurate and up to date.
